A Seal Pup Break…

A beach in the Scottish borders - which becomes a nursery for grey seal pups in autumn – awaits visitors to Fast Castle Cottage on offer through cottage agency, Ecosse Unique.
In late October and early November, the beach – just over the hill from the cottage – becomes a ‘rookery’ and is literally covered with female seals nursing their creamy white youngsters.
The pups, which weigh in at around 15 kg at birth, gain around two kg of weight a day and after three weeks of suckling the baby, the female mates again and leaves the breeding area.
For those who fancy experiencing this unforgettable sight, a seven-night holiday in ‘Fast Castle Cottage’ – located near Coldingham in south east Scotland – costs £295 throughout November.
This cosy property sleeps four and comes complete with oil central heating and log burning stove. It’s located on a working farm and the owners are happy to provide free range eggs and organically raised lamb and mutton.
