Wine rambling in France 2008....
Specialist operator, Belle France, recommends its Wine List Wanders – for independent walkers with a thirst in Burgundy – which starts from Dijon and follows an undemanding route past world-class vineyards with household names.
There will be ample opportunities for degustations on the way and, thoughtfully, Belle France operates a wine pick-up service (June to September only) so walkers can buy but not be weighed down by their purchases until delivered on day of departure.
Overnight stops in character accommodation – handpicked for location and charm – include Nuits St Georges, with wine tasting opportunities en route at Gevrey-Chambertin, one of the best appellations for red wines, and Savigny les Beaune.
The following day an easy five miles brings walkers past the vineyards of Aloxe Corton, to the ancient town of Beaune, and its wine caves where bottles can change hands for several hundred pounds.
Also on route is one of Burgundy’s most celebrated wine villages – Meursault – while the final night, with time to stop at the vineyards of Bourgogne Aligoté on the way, is spent in Chassey le Camp.
The trip can be started any day from April to October with prices from £681 per person, twin share, including return ferry crossing and six nights mainly half-board accommodation. Also included are detailed route notes and maps and luggage transfers between hotels
