And, of course, it leaves you with more cash to spend on your travels as the ‘swapping’ scheme is far less expensive than staying in a hotel.

How do I go about organising a home swap?
Geenee.com will make sure your home exchange is simple, safe and quick. Members can see exactly what the homes on offer (through Geenee.com) look like. Every home featured cities is visited by a Geenee representative and rated from one to five stars. Members can exchange information with other swappers without exchanging private contact details. Geenee also provides plenty of help and advice, from sample agreement templates to advice on preparing your home.

What if my place is nicer than the one I am offered?
Homes are matched perfectly. For example, a five bedroom house in Battersea will be partnered with a spacious loft apartment in New York.
What are the benefits and why not just stay in a hotel?
Firstly, hotels are much more expensive and impersonal. Secondly, staying in a ‘local’ apartment will give you more defined experience in your city of choice. You feel much less like a tourist and you’ll get to experience the city ‘off the beaten track’. Becoming part of a neighbourhood reveals locals lore such as the crazy barman at the Rose and Crown, or that quirky gallery off 14th Street- the sort of attractions only locals know about which, of course, will be you!
