The New Fitness Fad That Encourages Your 'Animal' Insticts
Wilditness is on a mission to transform us urbanite ‘zoo humans’ into ‘wild humans’. Lee Saxby, Technical Director of Wildfitness, explains: “We spent 200,000 years living as wild humans and were lean, strong and agile. But our environment has changed faster than our bodies can keep up. We cram onto jam-packed trains, sit uncomfortably behind our desks for hours, eat lunch on the way to stressful meetings and exercise indoors on machines. Then we wonder why we’re suffering physically, mentally and spiritually. It’s not our natural environment and so we’re showing all the habits and symptoms of caged animals.”
The solution is Wildfitness’ new London programme, designed specifically to address the needs of us zoo humans and help us get the best out of living in the urban jungle. Personal coaching and group sessions in the great outdoors of Regent’s Park, Hyde Park and Battersea Park are based on an understanding of human evolution, using natural movement patterns and intensity, which are the key to getting a lean and pain free body. What’s more, exercising outdoors provides the healing and rejuvenating benefits of natural light.
Wildfitness teach three key movements in their sessions: wild running, boxing and kettle bells. “Zoo humans are stressed,” says Saxby, “and our natural reaction to stress is the ‘fight or flight’ response. This is why we teach boxing and wild running. They are natural movement patterns that will make you lean and strong and they are nature’s stress relief tools. Zoo humans also spend far too long sat down. This is why we teach kettle bells. It’s the best way to counter-act lower back pain caused by sitting at a desk all day.”
Personal coaching and group classes start from 28th April in Regent’s Park, Hyde Park and Battersea Park. Group classes will be run in courses of 6 weeks and clients will need to sign up for the complete course.
