Fujitsu Siemens Lifebook S6410

The first thing you notice when picking up this diminutive laptop is its weight (1.7kg) and feel, the magnesium strengthens the often flimsy lid so common on portables. This true mobile laptop with its built in 3G data connection allows you to browse the web on the move . The 13.3inch screen is bright, clear and the resolution high making it versatile for watching media and working with office documents
There is a vast array of connectivity including wireless LAN, Ethernet, 3 x USB, firewire, 3G, VGA port and a memory card slot supporting SD/MMC, Memory Stick and xD media.
There is an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera mounted above the screen, though unable to swivel provides good coverage for use in video conferencing with its clever automatic face tracking technology which zooms and focuses to keep you in the centre of the picture at all times. For security there is a fingerprint reader which can be tied to logging into your system and logging into any websites that require login.
Performance was responsive thanks to the fast CPU, ram and 5400rpm hard disk. The keyboard, which I am writing this review on, feels tactile when typing and is great compared to similar laptops of this size. Battery life is claimed at a hefty 8hrs, for this you would need to switch to “Eco” mode available through a button above the keyboard which turns off unneeded accessories and also cuts the brightness of the screen and CPU speed down to save power. This is perfect for word processing or web browsing while travelling and the system still remains snappy at opening and closing documents while editing.
Overall this is a great laptop for the mobile user, the integrated 3G wireless means that while on the move you can browse the internet and access your corporate network without having to get out your credit card to sign up to a wireless network in a café or airport. There are some design problems being with the 2 USB ports being close together making it sometimes hard to plug to devices in at the same time but this does not discount this laptop from being a great all round ultra portable laptop.
8/10
The notebook is priced aroundthe £1000 mark
