SJ Berwin named Real Estate Team of the year

The real estate department of  SJ Berwin has been named “Real Estate Team of the Year” at this year’s  Legal Business Awards 2009.  The award was given as a result of the firm’s work for The Crown Estate on its £500 million regeneration of Regent Street one of the biggest-ever re-developments and re-brandings in London’s West End.

Regent Street accounts for over £2billion of the Crown Estate’s £7billion total assets and totals approximately 4 million sq ft including 1.5 million sq ft of retail and restaurant space, similar amounts of office space above and is home to some 500 businesses.  During the year, SJ Berwin advised The Crown Estate on:

*             The £100 million property swap with the Pollen Estate.

*             The £350 million property swap with Great Capital Partnership, hailed as “the largest ever West End Property swap”.

*             The sale of the Metropole building in Whitehall for £130 million.

*             The planned redevelopment of The Quadrant (Regent Palace Hotel, Café Royal and Quadrant blocks off Piccadilly).

*             The attraction of major new tenants to the Street including the National Geographic, Matrix, Lloyds TSB, Al Gore’s Generation Company and the redevelopment of Dickins & Jones.
