Junior Lawyers Division offers survival skills during downturn..
16 January 2009
Â
The Law Society Junior Lawyers Division is running a series of online seminars on credit-crunch related issues to provide help, tips and assistance for students, trainees and newly qualified solicitors during the downturn.
The online seminars, which are aimed at lawyers with 5 years or less PQE, start in January with a session entitled, "Surviving the Economic Downturn" and will run until March.
The free webinars will be invaluable for trainees and newly qualified solicitors who are concerned about how the economic downturn might affect them.
They will be streamed live during lunchtime on three dates in January, February and March, with practical sessions focusing on managing stress and debt and re-training and re-employment.
The first webinar on 29 January 2009 will invite the SRA and Law Society to help with questions on redundancy. The session will also include interview tips, CV techniques and alternative employment.
Delegates will be able to put their questions to the speakers in a live online Q&A session. Questions can be submitted before and during the sessions. The webinars will be recorded and made available on demand for those unable to participate in the live online sessions.
Kat Gibson, JLD Chair, said: "As the economic downturn gathers pace businesses and individuals alike are feeling the pinch. The JLD is providing practical support and sending a message of hope to its members in order to empower them and supply valuable guidance to continue their careers."
The February webinar will invite LawCare and a national debt management specialist to discuss how to manage potential financial and personal issues resulting from the credit crunch, while the session in March will include an outplacement counsellor and a speaker from Kaplan Law School to discuss the recruitment market, current trends and whether re-training or cross-qualifying is a possibility.
Registration is free and booking is now open for the first session. Delegates can book by visiting: http://juniorlawyers.lawsociety.org.uk/webinarregistration
