The 27-year-old That's At The Top Of Her Game

The 27-year-old That's At The Top Of Her Game

Manchester solicitors, Pannone LLP captured a winning double at the 'Insider Young Professionals Awards 2008', when Sarah Coyne was named, “Young Entrepreneur in Professional Services of the Year”

After beginning her career with the firm as an office junior 27 year old Coyne was promoted to manage Pannones 65 strong Remortgage department last year and in only eight months has increased its annual targeted revenue by 30%

Law and More caught up with the young legal star to find out just how she did it...

Firstly well done for winning the ‘Young Entrepreneur in Professional Services of the Year’ award! At 27 it’s a lot to have achieved. Could you run us through your career history?

I joined Pannone LLP the day after I finished my A levels exams. My first role was as a junior and I worked my way up from there, being promoted first to an admin role, then a secreterial role.

During this time I commenced the ILEX course with the support of Pannones. I progressed at work to be a fee earner and was then promoted to a team leader. Then, just over a year ago, my predecessor relocated to the South of England and the role of Head of the Remortgage Department came up – I applied and got the job.

How has Pannone helped you to get where you are now? And do you think you’ve been given more opportunities at the firm rather than at, for example, at a City multi-national?

Pannones’ have an excellent reputation for supporting and developing staff internally. For example they paid for me to undertake the ILEX course, they were flexible with my hours to allow for study and they allowed leave for exam time and revision.

They have a very good human touch and whilst I have no experience of City multi-nationals I find it hard to believe any other firms would beat Pannones in the support they offer their staff.

Could you run us through your typical day?

Everyday is so varied; I regularly attend different meetings and deal with internal and external issues so it is hard to set out a typical day.

What has been your most exciting day in law?

Graduating as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives.

What has been your most challenging/difficult moment in your career history?

Being interveiwed for my current role!

What advise would you have for those starting out in law- you’re obviously quite an inspiration for law student and trainees!

Work hard, do your best and treat any set back as a spur to do better next time.

What is your ‘More’ to law (ie hobbies and interests)

Shopping, more shopping and if my partner is not around, even more shopping.  If he is around then eating out and the cinema are always options.

Where do you think- or hope- to be in 5 years time?

Still heading a thriving remortgage department in a thriving and expanding Pannones.

Many thanks Sarah and keep up the good work!
