As with Acorn House, a key part of the Water House offering will be its pledge to train local people in the ethos of eco-friendly best practice in the restaurant trade.
Water House Restaurant offers visitors a unique dining experience. Not only can they eat delicious and ethical fare, but they do so in surroundings whose eco-credentials are second to none. Water House is owned by the award-winning charitable regeneration agency Shoreditch Trust and developed in collaboration with leading restaurant advisors Eat Green. As with Acorn House, profit from the restaurant will go back into improving Shoreditch. Water House Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with brunch served until 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Using only fresh, seasonal and organic produce, Roux-trained Executive Chef Arthur Potts Dawson, whose CV includes Acorn House, Fifteen and the River Café, has created a menu that is well balanced, simple and healthy.
Situated on the Regent’s Canal, Water House has been specially designed and built with the environment in mind. It uses renewable hydro-electric power to create a restaurant space that minimises carbon emissions. The room uses the ambient water temperature from the canal under licence from British Waterways, combined with the latest heat pump technology, to provide a cooling and heating system. Roof-mounted solar panels provide hot water and photovoltaic cells produce renewable electricity for the development. All cooking is powered by hydro-electricity; and hydro-carbon fridges reduce energy consumption. Water House is one of the UK’s first restaurants to produce its own premium, filtered, chilled bottled water on-site, using a filtration system from Greencare H20 in association with Belu.
As with Acorn House, a key part of the Water House offering will be its pledge to train local people in the ethos of eco-friendly best practice in the restaurant trade.
