Michelmores is a fast-expanding practice, which has achieved an average annual growth of 20% over the last five years. With offices in Exeter, London and Sidmouth, we are now a 41-partner practice with a further 100 lawyers and a total complement of around 300 personnel. We are also a British Legal Awards winner, achieving UK Regional Law Firm of the Year 2009.

Types of work undertaken

Property

PFI/projects: The projects team advise government departments, agencies, NHS trusts, educational establishments and other public sector organisations and public sector companies including project financing. 

Commercial property: The leading role played by Michelmores in the commercial property sector is unquestioned with the largest department of its kind in the South West, with a team of over 40 lawyers including those specialising in planning, environment, licensing, construction and property litigation. The firm acts for many public bodies as well as some of the most significant regional institutions, investors and national house builders and developers including Barratts, Persimmon, Wimpey and ROK plc.    

Government: Michelmores' public sector specialists act for over 15 government departments, including the Office of Government Commerce, the Department of Constitutional Affairs, Ministry of Defence Estates, the Prison Service and Arts Council England. The firm has advised HM Courts service on the new Supreme Court and Commercial Court projects in central London, as well as new courts at Manchester, Liverpool, and Birmingham.

Business

Commercial: Michelmores’ Business team has an expanding deal base to include a number of national and international transactions. The firm deals with a wide range of transactions including mergers, acquisitions and equity financing in sectors ranging from leisure/tourism and software development to manufacturing, and care homes.

Dispute Resolution: The firm has a thriving department where alternative dispute resolution and mediation services have attracted lawyers of the highest calibre, while the quality of the firm’s work in clinical negligence is acknowledged nationally.

Private Client

The firm enjoys a considerable reputation for the quality of its private client work, acting on behalf of a wide range of high-net-worth individuals throughout the country. The eight-partner department is the largest of its kind amongst South West based firms and continues to expand.
