Taylor Wessing Leads Way in Climate Change Initiative

Taylor Wessing leads the way for East of England lawyers to play key role in climate change initiative

Solicitors in the East of England are joining forces to tackle climate change by reducing their carbon footprint and adopting environmentally sustainable practices.

The green initiative is being led by the Legal Sector Alliance (LSA), an inclusive movement of law firms and organisations committed to working collaboratively to encourage the legal profession to commit to environmental sustainability.

Taylor Wessing LLP in Cambridge will host an event on 22 April to engage with local lawyers and raise awareness of the LSA, its purpose and objectives. The workshops aim to encourage participation from as many law firms as possible, to identify examples of good practice and highlight cost saving benefits gained from good environmental practices.

The UK legal sector has a major role to play in tackling climate change both directly through its own activities and indirectly through its influence over clients, suppliers and Government.

Head of Taylor Wessing's Cambridge office, Simon Walker, comments:

"We are delighted to be hosting the inaugural meeting of law firms in East Anglia who are interested in understanding how they might change their working practices in order to reduce their consumption of energy, business mileage and materials, especially paper."

Andrew Holroyd, Law Society President, comments:

"Climate change is emerging as one of the greatest challenges for modern society and the economic and social impacts are a real threat to business and society. The legal profession is uniquely placed to help tackle that threat by working collaboratively, sharing knowledge and providing law firms with the tools to achieve sustainability."
