Osborne Clarke has leapt up the UK mergermarket deal tables gaining a top five ranking

Osborne Clarke has leapt up the UK mergermarket deal tables gaining a top five ranking for the first time based on the number of deals on which the firm advised in the first quarter of 2008. The rankings, from M&A intelligence service mergermarket, show OC in 4th place, ahead of magic circle firms Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Slaughter & May.

The mergermarket deal tables rank firms according to how many deals they have advised on with a value of more than EURO5 million and the overall value of those deals. The rankings for the first quarter of 2008 also place Osborne Clarke at number 13 for the Europe-wide table, up from 52nd position at the end of 2007.

Simon Beswick, Osborne Clarke's Managing Partner, said:

"We have continued to see a healthy deal flow through our City and national offices in Q1 2008. In part this reflects our growing reputation for mid market and upper mid market M&A and our strength in various market sectors (in marketing services, for example, we have completed seven deals so far this year). It also reflects the rush of deals trying to complete prior to the 6 April CGT changes which, until now, has more than counter-balanced the adverse effects of the credit crunch."
